Welcome to Dr. Stymie’s Lab, where deer hunting has been elevated from a weekend in the woods to a highly questionable branch of scientific research. Deerology 101 investigates the complex relationship between rack size, tine count, beam length, scrape activity, rut behavior, scent, weather, trail-camera evidence, and the remarkable ability of a giant buck to completely disappear the moment hunting season begins.

Under Dr. Stymie’s careful supervision, students learn to identify signs, study movement patterns, analyze habitat, experiment with scent, and spend unreasonable amounts of time staring at trail-camera pictures of a deer that apparently only moves between 2:13 and 2:17 in the morning.

Of course, no study of Deerology would be complete without examining one of nature’s most fascinating subjects: the rack. After years of exhaustive field research, Dr. Stymie remains committed to his life's work:

“I’ve spent my whole life looking for the perfect rack.”

Possible side effects of advanced Deerology include measuring antlers nobody asked you to measure, checking trail cameras more often than your email, referring to enormous bucks by first name, spending hundreds of dollars to smell less human, and insisting the deer you missed was “way bigger than he looked.”
